What does a Security System have in common with Hearing Aids? Nothing!
I have been searching for a new security company for my office and recently met with the sales representative from one firm. He was a very nice guy and really knew what he was talking about. During our conversation he mentioned that he had sold hearing aids for about a year.
He told me that a friend of his invited him to come into a local franchise and sell hearing aids. He was told that the money was good. After a short training period, by a hearing instrument specialist who also had a short training period, he was unleashed on the public. Now, while this guy meant well, he didn’t know the first thing about hearing, ear anatomy, or even how hearing aids worked.
This is not uncommon and is how many hearing instrument specialists start selling hearing aids. To them, it is just another sales job, like selling security systems.
As an audiologist, I have not only a very strong academic background, I am constantly taking additional courses and continuing education to stay up to date on the latest technology and developments. All so I can provide outstanding hearing healthcare for my patients.
