Verification of hearing aid programming using real ear measurements is just as important in children as it is in adults!🦻 Because infants and children have smaller ear canals, when we put hearing aids on their ears the sounds coming through the hearing aids will end up being louder than they would be in a larger, adult ear canal.
If your child is being fit with hearing aids, a real-ear-to-coupler difference (RECD) measurement can be made to ensure the hearing aid programming is adjusted to your child’s exact ear canal shape and size. A thin, flexible tube and a soft ear tip is placed in your child’s ear for this measurement. It only takes a few seconds and can make a huge difference in your child’s hearing aid programming!
